3 of the best – Weekly round up

Bublegum in Mas Guinardo Barcelona.

It’s a new week at No grey walls HQ (my sofa) that will maybe be slightly less hectic than last. There was quite a bit going on around BCN with US Barcelona having a week long event in a now closed prison. There were gallery shows, monthly intervention projects and the general day to day painting goings on also. Oh and a few pretty big names were in town leaving behind a few of their works during the week. More on all of this soon.

First up this week is that man Bublegum yet again. I am featuring this guys work more than anyone else right now and for good reason. This piece is a hyper-realistic portrait of catwoman, something Buble seems to feature a lot. As always the realism is off the charts and the colours and shades are just perfect. I especially like the streaks of pink lighting towards the back of the characters hair. Catwoman is looking at a mystical spray cap, is it taking her to the good or dark side!?

Speaking of hyper-realistic portrait art, here’s a fantastic piece from Australian artist Smug. I came across this piece whilst walking the main shopping strip in Antwerp, Belgium. Not quite what you’d expect to see above a C&A but I’m sure not complaining. This is another piece that simply blows the mind, the level of details just beggars belief to be honest. The character in the piece is sat at a desk with a pencil and paper in front of him as he looks off into the distance. He looks a bit devoid of ideas, something smug clearly isn’t. My favourite part… How the artist has changed the jacket brand from ‘The North Face’ to ‘The Smug One’ an excellent way to tag your work.

Finally is this piece down a small side street in Barcelona by Morcky. It’s not all that often we get to see Morcky’s work on the streets, I think this is only maybe the third piece I’ve seen in the last few years. This is a bit of a shame but makes it more special when he does hit the streets. This door front is inspired by Morcky’s daughter and sees her hooded up carrying one of her drawings. She is surrounded by her favourite cuddly toys, some of which seem to have come to life as they rotate around her and the sun. A really stunning dream like piece.
