Wednesday wall #48 No Borders Special

Boris Hoppek & Sin Papelels

Two weekends ago saw a painting ´jam´held in Barcelona to help raise awareness for No Borders Refugees.  As per the organisations Instagram page – NO BORDERS was created to raise awareness about the refugees. To demand their acceptance, and to raise funds through debates, art and documentaries.

The guys behind Street art BCN were heavily involved in the organisation of the art side of the event. For it, they invited Boris Hoppek and Sin Papeles to paint their rotating monthly wall at Arnau gallery. This wall was to sit alongside the more temporary walls at the nearby Tres Xemeneies. Although the walls at Tres did not last long (some still remain) every time I pass the wall of Hoppek and Sin Papeles, people are stopping to look and take it in. The piece is called “con papeles & sin papeles” which translates to with papers and without papers.

Alongside Hoppek and Sin Papeles were a host of local artists (and a few who visited just for the event) some of which collaborated on their murals. One nice thing about the artists on the bill is that most of them are not regulars on the streets these days. So it was very nice to see some artists show solidarity for this cause and come out and leave their mark.

For the event there were standalone pieces from Juanjo Surace, Julieta XLF, Enic SantCarles GodRuina and Btoy.

Next to these pieces, old friends Rocblackblock and Ru8icon partnered up to create a very striking mural. In Roc´s words – “Neither the papers nor the divisions marked on a map should ever be above people”

The returning Saturno also collaborated on a piece alongside Eledu of a large cat. The message of this one is that cats can jump over every wall and break every frontier.

So there you have it, yet another really important charity and message supported by the street art community in Barcelona. I love how many artists here want to support causes such as No Borders. Pics below from the rest of the event.
