Lockdown might not quite be over but the organisers of Avant Garde are planning to bring colour back to the streets ASAP. This June should see the 7th edition of Avant Garde held in the Spanish town of Tudela, Navarre.
The first edition of Avant Garde was held back in 2010 and since then has seen a who’s who of Spanish and international artists participate. Sixe, Mark Jenkins, Evan Roth, Ron English, El Mac, Escif, C215, Faith XVII and Vhils have all previously participated. A trip to Tudela is very high on my list of places to visit!
The Artists
The seventh edition is curated by Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada in conjunction with Tudela’s City Council. The event will feature three more top international artists, Miss Van, Mina Hamada and Jeff McCreight aka ‘Ru8icon’. The three artists will leave behind three medium to large scale murals to add to the impressive collection already in Tudela.
Miss Van
‘Miss Van ( also known as Vanessa Alice ) started wall-painting at the age of 20, in 1993, initiating the feminine movement in Street Art. Originating from Toulouse, France and having spent most of her artistic life in Barcelona, Miss Van has travelled the world painting her instantly recognisable women on the streets, as well as on canvas. She has exhibited extensively for decades worldwide in Europe, USA and Asia.
Mina Hamada
Mina Hamada is a Japanese painter mainly based in Barcelona. Mina’s work is characterised through abstract and organic shapes in soft, bright and warm colours.
Ru8icon
Jeff McCreight aka Ru8icon is an American painter and muralist based mainly in Barcelona. Ru8icon has painted extensively in Philadelphia for his Mural arts project.
Due to the Covid-19 situation all the interventions will be open air. Measures will also be put in place to avoiding large groups.
