Elara Elvira in Manresa

Another artist who’s been creating wonders in Manresa recently is Elara Elvira. I first came across the work of Elara at the Molins de Rei paint jam held in conjunction with Contorno Urbano just prior to my trip up north.

The piece is spread across four doorways on the side of a large building. I couldn’t tell if the building was abandoned or if maybe the entrance point had changed making these doors unnecessary anymore. Either way it’s a pretty neat idea to fill the space with art instead of just filling it with brick work. Kudos to the person who came up with that idea.

There’s a cosmic theme with all four doors. The vibrant blue background is filled with spaceships, moons, stars and planets. There’s also paper aeroplanes acting as shooting stars, which I love.

There’s a real simplicity to the pieces which really seems to fit the location. Maybe something more ‘fine art’ would have got lost in the frames and been easy to miss. The combination of colours and cosmic patterns really make each door really pop out from the wall and stand out as real contrast to the plain brick work.
