The weekend of the 30th September saw the second annual Full Colours Fest in the town of Rubi about 20 minutes by train from Barcelona.
This event is organised by the Petados crew who are from Rubi and have multiple murals situated throughout the town. These guys work really closely with the local council and cultural associations and clearly have built up a good relationship based on the amount of art seen around the town.
The festival was held over two days in a large park of sorts that has a huge four sided wall that runs along the length of the park. There are huge pillars that are a photographers nightmare but actually separate each piece quite nicely.
This year saw thirty one artists invited to join Kets and Urih Petados and come together to create new artworks for the local community. Although I couldn’t make the actual event on the weekend, I visited on the Monday morning as the scaffolding was being removed. One nice thing was how many locals came over to tell me as was taking photos, to tell me how much they liked the new pieces.
As with a lot of these events I won’t go into detail about every single artist or you’d get very bored reading my commentary on each and every piece. I will focus on a few of my favourites and of course share pics of the other pieces.
First up is this epically good Asian inspired piece by Sendys and Cayn Sanchez. This is part of a larger wall but due to some parked vans and cranes removing scaffolding I was unable to get a full shot. The purple that was used across every wall works so well with the characters here, giving the piece such a nice night time feel. You can really feel like you are stepping into the water with the character to the left with those purple tones sweeping around the river vines. Also the hyper-realistic character on the right hand side (by Cayn) is absolutely outstanding.
This second collaborative piece is by Musa71 and Harry Bones. These two are crew members, regularly painting at festivals across the globe together. For this particular piece Musa71 has created the background, at first you might think is just a bunch of shapes and colours. However, if you look closely the background is actually Musa’s graffiti writing which twists and turns round Bones centrepiece character. The monocle wearing zombie army general is superb, Bones has used loads of great colours and the addition of the monocle is inspired. I love the colour change with the setting sun in the background of this urban jungle.
This is another collaborative joint, this time between Gran Canaria’s finest Ceser87 and Sakervcg. These two are frequent collaborators and it shows. There’s a bit of a Vegas feel to this piece, both artists names are surrounded by diamonds and gold and it’s all very decedent. Both pieces of writing are incredible by the way, really easy to read for an idiot like me which helps. The colours and use of fades are expert level and show two artists at the top of their game. The two young graffiti kid characters complete with low rider bikes and pockets full of cans are a nice additional also.
So 600 words is quite enough from me, I’ve attached shots from the rest of the pieces below. If anyone would like any info on the other artists let me know! Oh, for info, the header piece is by Kram & Stefano Phen.
