Kram recently opened his latest solo show at the Montana Gallery in Barcelona. It was a can’t miss show as far as I was concerned and I was proved correct in that assessment with the sheer volume of visitors who turned out on opening night. It did make it a little difficult to get an up close and personal look at all of the canvases and prints on show but it was great to see so many people turn out in support of a veteran of the scene.
The show was split into two sides. One side of the gallery had Kram’s pop art style framed prints, the style we are so accustomed to seeing on the streets. The other side was Kram’s work on canvas.
The quality of his work on canvas really is out of this world and the level of detail and realism blew the minds of everyone I talked with. A few artists even went as far to say that they should just give up making art now after seeing Kram’s canvases. All very tongue in cheek thankfully.
There was also a small sculpture/toy alongside the canvas and print work. This was Kram’s first attempt at such a thing but you wouldn’t know it. The character is holding a tiny Montana spray can which is the icing on the cake for me. I would love to have one of these on a shelf at home.
I haven’t had the chance to go back and see the show on my own in a more tranquil setting but with the showing running until September I’ll definitely be making a return visit.
