Llum y Color – Udane for Contorno Urbano 12 + 1

Since yesterday was a UK bank holiday and my 9-5 job is working with people in England I was fortunate enough to have the day off. That meant that for once I had the time to hop on the metro and head out to see the latest intervention for Contorno Urbano’s ever interesting 12 + 1 project.

This months piece is by an artist completely unknown to me until I heard that she was one of the successful applicants for this years project at the start of the year. Udatxo is the name of the artist and she has produced possibly my favourite ‘Contorno wall’ yet. And that’s saying something.

Udane Juaristi (Udatxo) is from Bilbao has always been interested in urban issues. She started painting bicycles, trams, old cars and urban scenes. Currently she is particularly interested in painting characters in urban scenes. She seeks to reflect the movement of each character, painting with loose stroke of bright colors.

The artist usually works with mixed technique to achieve textures, she is interested in reflecting in the work the different layers and the effects so that each material is noticed and that the color has light and prominence..

The piece is titled ‘Llum y color’ or ‘Light and colour’ and In this new artistic stage, Udane Juaristi’s main point of interest is the people she meets on the street, like this unknown guy walking on a sunny day.

It is an urban portrait and a daily scene where light and color are the protagonists, a work where the face of the character and backpack stand out most strongly.
