Wednesday Wall #34 – Manyoly Special

The French artist Manyoly has recently spent a few days in Barcelona on a working holiday. Over the course of a few days she left three of her beautifully coloured paste up’s around the city.

Luckily for me she seems to like the Raval barrio and seeing as I live there it made my life a little easier when it came to hunting down her works. In fact the first of her paste up’s is just a few minutes walk from my front door.

Manyoly’s specialises in powerfully coloured female portraits. None of her characters ever smile, which I find really intriguing and it’s something I would love to find out more about. I’m sure there must be an inspiration for this.

Something else that really intrigues me about her work is if these are real people that she has met on her travels or just random designs.

Either way it’s fantastic to see this inspirational artist come to Barcelona and brighten up our streets with her vivid portraits. I did have a brief conversation with her on Instagram and it seems she wants to come back to leave some bigger pieces next time which is something to really look forward to.

  1. Love Manyoly! Her colorful “girls” are incredible good! The first time when I saw her “Girls” was in Marseille last year(she is based in Marseille) and in May unexpectedly I found one of her girls in Barcelona (El Raval),she was even surprised as she told me that still one of her girls exist. She is one of my absolute favorite street artists. I am not a big Barcelona Fan(mass tourism), but hunt her new girls in Barcelona…. seducing:). Great post! Did you check her girls in my hometown Oostende? http://www.ostendnomadography.com/the-crystal-ship-20-manyoly/

    1. Yeah I am a big fan of her work also. I saw a piece in Berlin which I think was the first of her’s I had scene in person before she came to Barcelona. Haha well yes the tourism here is a problem but don’t let that put you off hunting, it’s a timing thing for when to come! I haven’t read that particular one no, I was reading your Crystal ship info before but must have missed this one!

    1. I often find with paste ups once you find one then you suddenly find a bunch soon after. I guess she probably has a few in London, if they haven’t been peeled off yet. I think she plans on doing something a little bigger scale next time she visits. Hopefully that’s soon.
