Wednesday wall #40

Bday boy art in Barcelona, 2018.

There is a lot of very serious art around on the streets these days. Not that I don’t like this style of work, in fact I like a lot of it very much. However, it’s nice to have your day brightened by a fun piece like this by Bday boy.

As a huge Mario Kart fan in my youth this piece immediately made me smile both inwardly and out. In fact I’m such a fan of Mario Kart that I will challenge anyone to race and be confident I will win comfortably!! Maybe that’s my next street art event right there, paint and Mario Kart challenge!

The piece itself is of a Koopa turtle celebrating a race win. I love how he has been painted perfectly in 12 bit style, it’s really creative and skilled work to do this. Simply fun fun fun. More of this please.

  1. If I am honest, I sometimes tire of the stunningly brilliant stuff and love these light hearted pieces. I think back to the early days of graffiti writing, to the roots of this movement.

Actually I kind of love it all, which is why I do this…

    1. Haha yeah I’m in the same boat. I see these huge murals and I desperately want to see them but at the same time I love the 8cm x 8cm sticker on a lamp post!
